Why waste your time on makeup if it doesn’t last?! Whether it’s New Year’s Eve, date night or a birthday celebration there IS a way for your flawless face to last all night long! All it takes is a little prep, some strategic steps and a few beauty tricks to achieve long-lasting makeup, so let’s get to it!
Exfoliate- The first step to any makeup routine is making sure your skin is prepped! This means, cleansing your face and gently exfoliating (don’t forget your lips). I love using my Clarisonic but if you just need light pick me up, Pixi Glow Tonic is a great exfoliating toner (good for sensitive skin too). Or any face scrub you have at home works, I like this one from Aveeno.
*TIP* If you have sensitive skin, avoid “night of” exfoliation, do it the day before.
Moisturize- The key to good makeup application is hydrated skin, plus who wants to deal with dry skin (amiright?!) Be generous with your application and let it sink in before you begin applying makeup. My favorite moisturizers are this one and this one.
Face- I was never a believer in primers and now it is my “go-to” for long lasting makeup! There’s so many to choose from and most will get the job done BUT if you’re looking for specific skin solution here’s a few to choose from: To hide pores, I love this classic and the one from Becca which is great for oily skin too. For redness, I’ve tried this purple primer and it helps even out my skin tone. If your skin is dry, here’s a great affordable hydrating primer. Want a subtle glow? This other Becca primer is a solid choice!
*TIP* Apply moisturizer BEFORE you put on primer.
Eyes- Don’t worry you don’t need another primer for this, you can just apply your everyday concealer to your eyelid. But, if you are looking for the best eyeshadow primer then I swear by this Urban Decay one! Also, let’s talk eyelashes. If you’re planning to curl your eyelashes, here’s how to make the curl last (and no, it’s not heating up your eyelash curler, ouch). I curl my eyelashes before I apply any mascara and then let the curl set while I apply the rest of my makeup. Once I’m ready for mascara I curl them again and then *HERE’S THE HACK* let them sit for one more minute before I apply mascara. Bam! Long luscious lashes all night long! (btw here’s my “ride or die” mascara pick and my cheaper choice)
Lips- Priming your lips is super simple! Prime them with concealer or use a lip primer and make sure you use a lip liner. Setting your lips with a translucent powder will help them last even longer, which brings us to the next part!
Setting Powder: If you want your foundation and concealer to last then make sure you set it with powder! I stick with translucent powders like this NYX one or this cult favorite or if you want to conceal your pores I love this setting powder. ALSO, if you’re using a creme blush or liquid bronzer, set it with a powder blush/bronzer for an added layer of protection.
*TIP* When setting with powder, apply in a pressing motion so you don’t brush away the product you put on.
Finishing Spray: There is only one finishing spray you need in your life, the “All Nighter” spray! This stuff is magic, I’ve literally woken up the next morning with my makeup still in tact! When you’ve applied ALL of your makeup, use three sprays (one for the left, middle and right side of your face) and you’re SET! *FYI: I’ve found the All Nighter setting spray for cheaper at Nordstrom Rack, the bottle is their old white version but it’s the same formula!

Blot- Don’t let all your hard work go to waste! If you have oily skin or are sweating it up on the dance floor, make sure you blot excess oil throughout the night to keep your makeup looking flawless! Simple oil blotting tissues like these cheap ones work great! If you want an upgrade, BeautyBlender came out with a blotting sponge that has a cute compact to go with it.
Refresh- If your skin is on the dry side of things, give yourself a boost with a hydration spray like this rose water one or this Evian one. It is so refreshing to spritz on a spray or two. These also end up acting as light setting sprays, double win!
