A new beauty product has started to take over our social feeds…it’s the latest thing in lipstick and it’s called LipSense! Have you seen it? In case you’ve missed all the Facebook and Instagram videos, let me catch you up.
LipSense is a two piece long-lasting lip color, it’s waterproof, does not kiss-off, smear-off, rub-off or budge-off!
With over 70 colors, girls, one by one are becoming distributors. With so many people raving about this product, I wanted to see what all the hype was about and give LipSense a full review so I could report back to you! Luckily, my girl Ashley from Fairytale Kisses let me give it a try and after testing it out, here’s my breakdown and whether or not it’s worth the hype!
This is the part that took some getting used to. When it comes to applying LipSense, it’s different than any other lip color you’ve tried. You want to prep your lips by making sure they’re clean (they recommend using witch hazel). Then you have to apply the color in layers, gliding on the gloss in one direction for each layer…waiting for each layer to dry before applying the next. While you wait for it to dry, you can’t touch your lips…so yes, I basically look like a fish. BUT once it’s dry you apply the clear moisturizing gloss (best feeling ever) and you’re done!
Until you’re a pro, a mirror is definitely needed and you want to make sure you’re careful as you apply the color because this stuff stays. So if you’re trying to experiment with a Kylie Jenner lip…be warned you’re gonna have a Kylie Jenner lip for a few hours (fortunately they do sell an “ooops remover”).

This stuff stays. Plain and simple, it works! You really can eat and drink and kiss everyone or everything and it doesn’t come off. It’s pretty amazing! There is no flaking and it doesn’t blotch. The color stays bold and bright and the gloss stays glossy throughout the whole day. The only issue I ran into with the wear of the color is on the water line of your lips, the color tends to fade more quickly there (makes sense) especially with darker colors. This just means you want to make sure you apply on your water line and may need to reapply after 4 hours…which brings me to upkeep.
The color i’m wearing is called “Lexie Bear-Y”.
So LipSense claims the color stays on for up to 18 hours. I wore it for 12hrs one day and then had to go to bed haha…so I’m sure it has the ability to last for as long as they say, if you continue to re-apply. To help protect the color, a LipSense best practice is to apply the clear gloss before you eat (weird, I know) and throughout the day. I found myself reapplying the gloss every 2 hours if I was eating and drinking. The color on my waterline started to fade after about 4 hours (again, because I was eating and drinking) so at that point I would reapply the color only on my water line. But that’s it, the color on my lips stayed all day, it really is magic!

When you first buy LipSense you have to purchase both a color and the gloss because they go hand in hand. The gloss runs for $20 and individual colors at $25. So it is a little bit of an investment up front but they seem like they’ll last you a long time! Plus, you can use the clear gloss by itself to keep your lips moisturized in between colors. If you’re looking for a lip color that lasts and keeps your lips healthy, this is definitely worth the cost. If you want to try it, you can get 10% off and free shipping when you order through Ashley at FairyTale Kisses, just mention this post!
Before I tried LipSense, I would stick to mostly nude lip colors because the upkeep of a bold color was too much (I’m all about convenience) so I love being able to wear a bold lip without having to worry about it coming off! I was so paranoid about the color coming off at first, but it’s so nice just having to apply it once and that’s it. The application process is still something I’m getting used to, but it gets easier each time. Overall, I’m pleasantly surprised and understand what the hype is about. Although the price isn’t cheap, I think LipSense is worth the money. The colors are pigmented and look good, I think it’s worth a try!
- The lip color really does last and doesn’t smear off! Lasts all day!
- It’s vegan, lead free, gluten free, wax free. kosher, and no animal testing!
- Tons of colors to choose from!
- Doesn’t dry your lips and you can use the gloss by itself to moisturize your lips in between colors.
- Application and prep takes some getting used to, but with anything, practice makes perfect!
- It isn’t cheap, with individual colors running at $24 each, it’s definitely an investment.
- Can’t buy it online, you have to purchase through a distributor (this can be viewed as a pro too).
- Slight stinging if your lips are dry, nothing too painful.
