We’ve all been there. February 14th rolls up…no plans…no date…and that dreadful question comes up any way, “So do you have anything fun planned for Valentine’s Day?” . Well no more awkward pauses or passive aggressive answers, because GIRL it’s V-Day and you’ve got plans! I’ve put together 14 things to do if you’re not so into celebrating this glorious day of love ♥
1. Find Some Company
Despite what you may think, you’re probably not the only “lonely soul” stuck dreading Valentine’s day. Find a friend or even a family member and go do something fun! Get a bunch of your girl’s together and throw a Galentine’s party. If you don’t want to spend time alone, call up your squad!
2. Shop ‘Til You Drop
What better cure is there for a lonely heart than some good old fashion retail therapy? Treat yo self and pick something out that you actually like and deserve (no corny Hallmark gifts). Plus, think about it, LESS PEOPLE! While everyone is out at dinner and a movie you’ll be stocking up on some bath and body works candles and catching those amazing V-Day sales. Win-win!
3. Wine Tasting
Because wine not?! Get that cheese board out and work on your wine palate! Buy a selection of different wines, from chardonnay to rosé…$5 to $30, and just start tasting. Need some guidance? Here’s an article on how to channel your inner sommelier.
4. Order a Heart Shaped Pizza
I mean…who doesn’t want a heart shaped pizza?! Aside from the fact that it’s totally insta-worthy, pizza is always a good choice. They’ll be in high demand, so order early! You can get one from your local Pizza Hut, Papa Murphy’s, and Papa John’s OR if you have one in your area, Lou Malnati’s is making them too!
It’s the day of love so get out there and show some love! There’s something about giving that can make your heart feel so full. Need help finding places to volunteer? Check out Volunteer Match to find events and non-profits in your area.
6. Hit Up Happy Hour
No more worrying about getting a seat at the bar! Beat that dinner rush and catch up with an old friend over cocktails.
7. Channel Your Creativity
It’s time to bust out that Pinterest project that’s been pinned on your board for months. If you’re less into DIY and more into “ready to go” try a puzzle or coloring book!
8. Get Yourself Flowers
Seriously do it. You deserve it! You don’t need someone to buy you flowers, there’s no shame in picking out a bouquet for yourself (#independent). Get what you want and heck, if you’re feeling crafty, try your hand at flower arranging! Fresh flowers + fresh new skills = winning
9. Cuddle With Your Pet
If you didn’t realize this, your pet is your lifelong Valentine! They’re always there to show you unconditional love so it’s time for you to do the same. Spoil them with some treats or gift them some (probably long overdue) quality time filled with endless amounts of attention. I’m not kitten, go do it, right meow!
10. Work On Your Fitness
If there’s one place you can expect to be empty on the biggest date night of the year, it’s the gym. So what better opportunity than to work on that summer bod…and who knows…you might just meet a fellow single gym goer ?
11. Netflix and Chill
Whether it’s sappy rom-coms (“The Notebook”) or anti-love chick flicks (“How to be Single”), make it a movie night! I don’t think I need to do much convincing when it comes to binge-watching on your comfy couch with some wine and popcorn in hand.
12. Cook for Yourself
Give Julia Childs a run for her money and whip yourself up a nice dinner! Get back on that Pinterest board and pick a new recipe to learn. If you’re not the cooking type, you can always order delivery while you watch the Food Channel (it’s practically the same thing, right?).
13. Stay Off Social Media
Nobody wants a case of FOMO…so avoid all social channels! Feeds will be filled proposals, flower deliveries and cheesy love posts (cue the eye rolls). So unless you’re totally ok with it, I don’t think you need a reminder that everyone is out there celebrating Valentine’s day.
14. Treat it Like Any Other Day
Weren’t holidays invented by Hallmark anyway? (kidding) Even though the calendar says it’s a special day, chances are it probably won’t feel any different. So just keep on keeping on. Do what you would do any other day and celebrate on your own terms!
As always, thanks for reading! Which one of these will you be doing?! Come tell me on Instagram, I promise I won’t be posting anything too sappy! Wishing everyone a Happy February 14th!?
